The Terminal Kyoto | A Harbor for Creativity
A Legacy of Preservation
The Terminal KYOTO is not just a building—it is a living, breathing part of Kyoto’s culture. It serves as the venue for Kyotographie, Kyoto's annual photography festival, and hosts monthly exhibitions and events celebrating the arts and crafts of the region.
A Gathering Place for Knowledge, Wisdom, and Connection
True to its name, The Terminal symbolizes a station or port—a place where people gather, intersect, and exchange ideas. We are thrilled to officially partner with The Terminal and bring it onto our network for artisans, craftsmen, patrons, and researchers. We look forward to hosting future events here, creating a hub for fostering creativity and community.
The current owner, a Hollywood producer based in Tokyo, is a passionate collector of pottery and a dedicated supporter of both young and established craftsmen. The long term vision is for The Terminal to be a symbol of food, clothing, and shelter—a place where wisdom and technology are passed down and where the community can thrive.
A Space for Art and Craft
The Terminal KYOTO is a large machiya with a width of 9 meters and a depth of 50 meters, a classic example of the “eel’s bed” design.
This house was originally built by the founder of Kizaki Gofukuten, a prestigious kimono wholesaler. It reflects the peak of Kyo-machiya architectural techniques from the early Showa period. With its detailed craftsmanship, the property showcases an era when Japan's economy and culture flourished before the war.
The tea room, originally used to host important clients and exhibitions, features intricate ceilings and a serene Japanese garden.
